MORE THAN A BOXING GYM
Blu Corner was built on a simple belief: great boxing should be taught, not guarded.
We are a real boxing gym. We teach the sweet science from the ground up—stance, movement, offense, defense, conditioning and the discipline that comes with learning the sport properly.
But you don't have to already be a boxer to belong here.
Some people walk through our doors with dreams of competing. Others want to get in shape, learn something new, build confidence or simply challenge themselves. Some have never put on a pair of gloves before.
They all deserve good coaching.
That's what Authentic Boxing for Everyone means to us.
It doesn't mean making boxing easier. It means meeting people where they are, teaching them the right way and giving them the opportunity to discover how far they can go.
BUILT THROUGH BOXING
Blu Corner grew from Coach Jhovon Heggie’s own experience with the sport.
Jhovon began training in boxing at 12 years old under Coach Rick Burns at Blue Corner Boxing Gym in Chandler, Arizona. The gym produced two world champions the year he joined, but for Jhovon, its impact was deeply personal. Through boxing, he lost more than 70 pounds and overcame childhood obesity.
Over the years, Coach Burns became much more than his boxing coach. He became a mentor and father figure. As Jhovon continued to develop as a boxer, Burns took him on as an apprentice, teaching him not only how to fight, but how to teach—developing his skills in mitt work, training, coaching, and the craft of developing fighters.
After a long and successful career in boxing, Coach Burns eventually stepped away from the sport because of health issues. Following his passing, Blue Corner Boxing Gym ultimately closed, but what he taught Jhovon continued.
At age 20, while continuing to train in boxing and work with fighters, Jhovon began studying Judo. He went on to become a two-time state champion, a Jack Bradford Judo Tournament champion, and earned his black belt.
His coaching journey eventually brought him to Orlando, where he spent three years as Head Boxing Coach at Orlando Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and later became the gym’s General Manager. From there, he left to pursue a goal that had been developing for years: opening a boxing gym of his own.
Across more than two decades in the sport, Jhovon has worked with amateur and professional boxers as well as mixed martial artists, kickboxers, and Muay Thai fighters. Today, he is a USA Boxing coach and a licensed Florida professional boxing trainer.
That experience now lives at Blu Corner Boxing.
The name is a tribute to the gym where Jhovon’s own journey began, but Blu Corner is not an attempt to recreate the past. It carries forward what was given to him—the belief that boxing can change a person’s life and that the knowledge of the sport comes with a responsibility to pass it on.
Today, Blu Corner is a place for people at every stage of that journey. Some come to get in shape. Some want to learn the sport. Some are children putting on gloves for the first time. Others are amateur and professional fighters pursuing competition.
Whatever brings them through the doors, the goal remains the same: teach real boxing, develop people, respect the craft, and pass it forward.
“I strive every day to be as great as the bravest person I have ever met and my hero… Mom.”
